Times Square

Two girls, one a politician's daughter (Pammy) and the other a rebelous runaway (Nicki), meet in a New York City hospital psych ward and begin a wirlwind adventure complete with throwing TVs off buildings, starting a band and becoming the subject of a late night radio talk show.

Times Square defininently has a few dull/cheesy moments but in the end, you will be yelling "Pammy! Nicky!" at the top of your lungs!

Also, there is quite a killer soundtrack with Roxy Music, The Ramones, XTC AND Suzi Quatro.

Check out the trailer below. It came out on DVD a couple of years ago and is on Netflix....

Y Pants

Armed with a toy piano, random purcussion items, ukulele and other fun sound makers, Y Pants created some of the most interesting art house no wave of their era. Barbara Ess (Theoretical Girls), filmaker Gail Vachon and Virginia Piersol comprised the short lived NYC based group. I can't get enough of this song...

Remedios Varo

These stunning works of art painted by surrealist painter Remedios Varo capture bizzare fantasy so well that I want to give up this bland existance and walk directly into her lands, share a bottle of wine with the spirit like characters and learn alchemy. Varo was born in 1908 and lived her life in Europe and Mexico, where she rubbed elbows with Frida Khalo. Tragically she died of a heart attack at the age of 55, right when her career was taking off.
The painting below is called Vampiros Vegitarianos. Awesome.

VHS dreaming....

I hadn't previously heard of this film trading project started by the wonderful Miranda July. I found it really inspiring and I desperately want to find a way to view some of these tapes!

brief explaination

I've been itching to start this blog for a long time! I live a very female centric lifestyle, constantly researching female artists, writers, musicians and overall awesome ladies. I want to spread knowledge of the vital works created by women I revere and I figured this would be a great place to do so!
I am excited about the possibility of sharing and discovering more hidden treasures.

I don't own my own computer, but I plan to try and post as often as I am able.
